TEFAF 2024
Five Spanish galleries participate in the 37th edition of the Maastricht art fair.
TEFAF Maastricht, the leading fair for fine arts, antiques and design, opens its doors for its 37th edition. Among the 270 international galleries from 22 countries present, five stand out for representing the best of Spanish art: Caylus, Colnaghi, Deborah Elvira, Mayoral and Artur Ramon. The Spanish galleries exhibit a variety of masterpieces spanning different periods and artistic movements.
Colnaghi
Colnaghi, with offices in Madrid, New York and London, will present a watercolor by Turner and a drawing by Françoise Gilot, Picasso’s partner. Their collection also includes The Descent from the Cross by Domingos António de Sequeira.
Deborah Elvira
Deborah Elvira, specializing in iron decorative arts and high-period jewelry, presents unique pieces such as a devotional pendant of Mary Magdalene in coral and silver, a reliquary of St. Ignatius of Loyola and St. Francis Xavier from the 18th century in gilded silver and rock crystal, and a Sicilian devotional medallion from the same period in gold and coral.
Caylus Gallery
The Caylus Gallery in Madrid has opted for a selection of works from the 16th to 18th centuries, including artists such as Sánchez Coello, Cecco da Caravaggio and Juan Bautista Maíno.
Mayoral
Mayoral, with locations in Barcelona and Paris, is showing works of modern and contemporary art, including a 1964 watercolor Femme entourée d’un couple d’oiseaux by Joan Miró, as well as other paintings and drawings by Chillida, Tàpies, Antonio Saura, Manuel Millares and Barceló. For the first time, the Mayoral gallery also presented a stand exclusively dedicated to Salvador Dalí, showing a dozen pieces, among which Figura ecuestre molecular could be seen.
Artur Ramon Art
Finally, the Catalan gallery Artur Ramon Art offers a variety of fifty works including paintings, sculptures, ceramics and decorative arts. On the one hand they present paintings representative of Spanish art such as Portrait of Julia by Ramón Casas, Valencia Beach by Joaquín Sorolla, and Three Marks on White by Antoni Tàpies. Other highlights include pieces such as Giacometti’s sculpture, Lampe coupe aux deux figures, and an 18th century coffee table by Martin-Guillaume Biennais, considered one of the jewels of the fair.
