Saskia Venegas Aernouts x Kronos Quartet: Through Their Eyes

The Kronos Quartet presents at TivoliVredenburg the world premiere of “Through Their Eyes,” a new work by Saskia Venegas Aernouts.
Through Their Eyes is a composition by Saskia Venegas Aernouts, created as part of the Nieuwe Makers talent development program, supported by Music Meeting and funded by Fonds Podiumkunsten.
Venegas Aernouts’ work addresses unresolved historical violence in her native Spain, exploring the consequences of the loss of social empathy and the intergenerational impact of unprocessed grief. Through Their Eyes represents a call to reflect on cycles of dehumanization and the need to understand the other.
The concert program also includes works by Sun Ra (arrangement by Jacob Garchik), Terry Riley, Soo Yeon Lyuh and Gabriella Smith. The Kronos Quartet’s participation in this project is part of its long history of collaboration with contemporary composers. The New York-based quartet is composed of David Harrington (violin), Gabriela Diaz (violin), Ayane Kozasa (viola) and Paul Wiancko (cello).
